University of Cape Town(UCT)
Following the UCT student strike, aimed at the scrapping of registration blocks, the UCT council has reached a consensus to remove the financial blocks on student portals, which will enable students to register.
University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN)
UKZN students protested against online registration, as students would rather register on campus due to the taxing nature of the online registration process. UKZN, however, has stated that it has no plans to relocate registrations to their campus and will continue to accept registrations online.
North West University (NWU)
On 25 February, NWU students protested against NWU’s proposed COVID-19 vaccination policy. The march was a result of the creation of a Facebook group which highlights that the reason for the protest is that “currently no student will be allowed on any NWU campus to participate in NWU related activities […] if they are not vaccinated from approximately 7 March 2022” and that “NWU is a public university and therefore [it] must comply with the national COVID-19 regulations, which does not include mandatory vaccinations”. NWU has stated that it has adopted a “non-mandatory stance” on vaccinations and responded to the protest stating that it was aware of the planned march and that “[NWU] encourage[s] robust discussions on timely topics”.
