PDBY is the official student newspaper of the University of Pretoria
The first issue of PDBY (formerly Perdeby)hit the streets in 1939. Today PDBY has established itself as one of the leading student publications in South Africa.
The newspaper is tabloid sized and varies between 8 and 28 pages.
In order to reach the majority of UP students, the primary distribution channel of the newspaper is digital. The digital version of the newspaper is available on Issuu with printed copies of PDBY distributed free of charge during the university term.
PDBY print copies are distributed outside all the buildings on Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria, Groenkloof Campus, Onderstepoort, Medical Campus, Mamelodi Campus, as well as all the residences.
All of the news that appears in the hard copy version of PDBY is now also available online along with extra news and inside scoops.
Editorial duties include planning, coordinating, and revising material that will be published in the paper. Editor reviews story ideas and decides what material will appeal most to students. And ultimately has the final say on what the paper publishes.
The digital manager oversees the multimedia,web and social media sections to keep them in line with PDBY’s values.
Responsibilities include proofreading, fact checking, correcting, and editing all the written material of the paper to ensure we publish quality content without any mistakes.
The layout section is responsible for designing the layout of text and images on the newspaper.
Web is responsible for the whole website. They add and remove content and ultimately serve as a platform to digitise the newspaper, in order to provide easy access to readers wherever they are.
News ensures that students read reported stories that are true and relevant to them. This section serves as the platform where students can read about topics that directly affect them and ensure that students are up to date with topics that concern them.
Features mainly writes soft news articles about people, places, events, and overall everything that is included in the life of students.
The Entertainment section is responsible for covering all the entertainment news in and around campus. They cover events, competitions and all the exciting things!
The Multimedia editor is responsible for planning and coordinating journalists in creating visuals to accommodate articles written. They may also coordinate the production of video content.
The Sport section is responsible for covering games that happen on campus and all varsity related sports. They provide live updates as games happen and provide interesting articles on games, athletes, and unconventional sports too.
