On 26 March, the Yakhal’Inkomo exhibition, a number of works collected by Bongi Dhlomo, officially opened at Javett UP.

The collection of artwork was collected from 2017 to 2019 by South African artist, art administrator and activist Bongi Dhlomo. According to Javett the collection “is a unique and educative assemblage of over 100 classical twentieth-century artworks produced by Black artists in South Africa”.

The collection is guest curated by Tumelo Mosaka who when naming the collection tried to step into Dhlomo’s mindset when she was collecting the works. His first thought was “a conversation between artists, working across time”. However, Mosaka settled on the title Inkomo which according to him “represents a lot of different things for Africans. It is our wealth. It is our land. It is who we are as a people in terms of how we celebrate our origins and culture”.

The opening hosted performances from Kgafela le Marabele, as well as the provision of food and beverages from local businesses.

The collection is open to the public until 15 January 2023.

Leah is a pale ... awkward ... asthmatic ginger.
She used to be Head of Layout (cries) before becoming Digital Manager in an effort to take over PDBY, an effort that has since failed (its all political). She has a keen eye for alignment, an intense love for tequila and chicken nuggets, and occasionally enjoys frollicking in the hills. To end off this bio she leaves this final nugget of wisdom "You just lost the game".
