UP-Tuks competed in the International Invitational Women’s section in a tough Group B. The group saw UP-Tuks pitted against Wales Women’s National, France Development Women, and The West Coast Vikings Ladies. The Pretoria outfit had to be in peak condition for the tournament as they played all their group stage matches in quick succession in one day, typical of any Sevens tournament. UP-Tuks kicked off the tournament on 3 December 2015 at 09:00 when they faced off against Wales Women’s National. It was a cruel welcoming for the Pretoria outfit as they were outmuscled 33-10. UP-Tuks were dealt a cruel blow in their second fixture when they imploded against France Development Women, going down 59-0. The Pretoria ladies picked themselves up admirably as they showed guts to draw 10-10 against West Coast Vikings Ladies in their final group fixture. UP-Tuks then lost out narrowly by 19-12 in the bowl semi-final to the Kenya Lionesses. UP-Tuks ended off the tournament on a high when they got a consolation victory over Tabusoro Angels Inter, winning 17-5.
The team will step into the year confident having gained invaluable international experience and hope to continue their successful streak, particularly through the growth of the team. The club’s representative, Livia Branga-Peicu, encourages new players to try out for the team and said, “Since some of our players are possible Springbok candidates, we are looking for new players. Playing for Tuks Womens Rugby is a wonderful experience, we travel the world. You can see the France of Napoleon and the skyscrapers in Dubai. You don’t need any previous experience to join and all are welcome.”
