Folk and synthpop fans will be glad to hear that British act Crystal Fighters will still be performing. On 11 September the band’s drummer, Andrea Marongiu, sadly died of heart failure. The band are deeply saddened and have planned a charity foundation in Marongiu’s honour. Nevertheless, the show must go on and the remaining members have yet to call off their performance. Crystal Fighters recently released a new single, “Love alight”.
The Presets may not be a local household name but they have played sets at almost every big festival across the world, including Glastonbury, Parklife and Coachella. The electro duo are the record holders in their home country of Australia for the longest charting single in national history.
If you mix soul and drum and bass, you get the unique sound of Rudimental. The British band, consisting of instrumentalists and a DJ, rose to fame in 2012 with their single “Feel the love”. The single went on to be certified platinum not just in the UK but all across Europe. The band’s live performance is renowned for intense energy and excitement as they made history when their second ever performance became the most shared performance of BBC 1 Hackney Weekend in 2012. The band released their debut album last year.
Recently announced local act PHfat will open the concert. They were chosen through the official fan voting competition and beat out other firm favourites Bye Beneco, The Kiffness and The Plastics for the slot. PHfat are an electro-rap duo from Cape Town with three recorded offerings under their belt. Recently they have been making waves with their new single “Lights out” which has been playlisted on national and regional radio stations across the country. They have also recently completed a tour of Australia and delivered one of the most exciting performances at Oppikoppi this year. PHfat will be the only local act on the night.
