Fouché then took the opportunity to thank all staff for serving UP with high moral standards and spirit.

Fouché went on to give some of the department’s statistics. Within the investigation component the total number of reported cases was 226 and the total number of arrests was 35. Then when it came to security inspections, the department has inspected 7614 buildings of which 400 were not in order. Fouché also spoke about the continual expansion of electronic systems. Across UP campuses there are 2310 cameras and 7512 alarms.

After Fouche’s speech, the awards were handed out. Protector of the Year was won by Chris Colyn. The Friend of the Year award was shared by Mr Ludolf van der Merwe, Deputy Director of Maintenance & Operations, and Mr Wessel Oosthuizen, Deputy Director of Campus Services. Lastly, the protector of the month awards from December 2014 to November 2015 were awarded.
