This past weekend saw the UP women’s football team win the USSA Gauteng football league with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Vaal University of Technology (VUT). The match was tightly contested and a free-kick by Regina Mogolola just before half time proved to be the difference between the two sides.

It was a match plagued by missed opportunities from both sides with neither able to make a break through from open play. The second half saw VUT create more opportunities for themselves but they were unable to convert their chances, their biggest being a free kick which hit the crossbar just before full time.

This was a big victory for the Tuks ladies who last won the trophy seven years ago in 2007. The team will now prepare for the USSA Football National Club Championship which will take place in December.
