FNB UP-Tuks begin their 2013 Varsity Cup campaign today against FNB NWU-Pukke at the Fanie du Toit sports ground in Potchefstroom. After successful warm-up games, the team is confident, while Pukke will be looking to avenge last season’s results.

Tuks beat Pukke twice in the 2012 season. Both victories were by more than 20 points. Tuks won 40-20 during the round-robin stage of the tournament and 53-24 in the semi-final.

FNB UP-Tuks head coach Nollis Marais has named an experienced team which includes Baby Boks William Small-Smith, Shaun Adendorff and Marvin Orie, as well as seasoned campaigners Danie Faasen, Vainon Willis and Courtnall Skosan. Jono Ross will lead the team from the back of the scrum after recently returning from a stint with English Premiership side Saracens.

“We have a lot of respect for Pukke and we know what they will bring but we are happy with our preparations leading into this year’s Varsity Cup. Our warm-up games went well and although the scores went our way, we were more focused on ensuring that the structures fall in place,” Ross told Perdeby.

The match will be televised and kick-off is at 19:00.
