Kabelo “KB” Ringane, a final-year civil engineering student was crowned the winner of the campus tour at Tuks. Ringane describes his poetry as “just rhymes and freestyle”.
As the winner of the competition, Ringane won a Blackberry Z10 and will be mentored by Chana for three months. If he emerges as the overall winner of the nationwide campus tour, he will win a recording contract with Chana and will perform at the Maftown Heights annual Hip Hop concert as well as at the next Blackberry secret gig.
The three times SAMA award winner and “Motswako originator” told Ringane that he is looking forward to mentoring him and that they are going to have a lot of fun in the studio. Before announcing the winner, Chana said that Tuks was the only campus he had visited who had a poet and that Ringane had “swag, presence and was on point”.
Chana told Perdeby that, “Kabelo is passionate and makes it so effortless. His wordplay is out of this world.”
“It’s going to be an honour and exciting challenge to work with Khuli Chana. Hip Hop meets poetry, that’s something to look forward to. More than the music I’m going to learn how to be resilient in the industry and I’m looking forward to learning a lot from him,” Ringane said.
