MADRÉ ROOTHMAN

The annual Durex Ultimate Battle is back in full swing. Over a 100 bands nationwide are fighting for the glory of the ultimate prize.

How does it work? Bands must battle it out on stage to play in three heats, a regional heat, a semi fi nal and a fi nal heat. One of the regional heats, Battle 2, will take place on August 15 at the infamous Zeplins Rock Bar.

The bands performing will be Trippple Bypass, Abstract Theory, Explicit Denial, Their Death Becomes Her and We killed Elvis. The bands’ performance will be judged on various judging criteria including pre-promotion, public votes, backstage neatness, performance and musicality.

You can vote for your favourite band by handing in an e-fl yer (with the name of the band highlighted) at the doors, or via sms. The winners of the Durex Ultimate Battle will walk away with a whopping total prize of R80 000, which includes R10 000 cash, a luggage trailer, a professional band photo shoot, an agency signing with Authentic Ideas, a headline festival slot at the Lucky Fish Music Festival in 2010 and many, many more…

According to Lardo Eloff of Trippple Bypass, the Durex Ultimate Battle is “a great opportunity for South African bands to get good exposure and management.” He also added that the sponsorship is a great way to achieve your dreams, and he defi nitely advises all bands to join in the battle.
