The Sun is Still Shining

The sun is still shining behind the grey,
even when clouds have swallowed the blue,
even when nothing goes the right way,
even when I don’t know what to do.

The sun is still shining past every storm,
past every door that slammed in my face,
past the cold nights that left me unwarm,
past the mornings I lost in this race.

I don’t have it figured out, not even close;
my hands are shaking, my plans keep breaking,
but I get up anyway, I face what’s the worst,
because some quiet hope in me keeps waking.

The sun is still shining on tomorrow’s ground,
on a version of me who finally made it,
on the dreams I’ve buried but never drowned,
on the version of hope I refuse to forfeit.

I wake up not because I’m sure,
not because the answers came at night,
I wake up because I trust there’s more,
because somewhere ahead, there’s light.

The sun is still shining, even unseen,
behind the grey, behind the rain,
it hasn’t left, it’s just between
today’s ache and tomorrow’s gain.

So let the night stretch long and slow,
let the questions sit without reply
I’ll rise again, because I know
the sun is still shining, up in that sky.
