In 2015 he won the 100 m in every meet throughoutthe year at the FINA World Cup, which included victory over swimming rival Adam Peaty as recently as November. Peaty overtook Van der Burgh’s 100 m breaststroke world record last year in a time of 57.92 seconds. When asked about defending his Olympic title, Van der Burgh said in an interview with Times Live, “I’ve got four years more training and four years more experience [since the last Olympics]. To win the Olympics now, you’re going to have to go 57-seconds, whether high or low. These Olympics will be fast. A lot of world records will go.”

 

Race days
Cameron Van der Burgh will be in action at the Rio Olympics on Saturday 6 August (for the heats) and Sunday 7 August (for the final) to defend his 2012 title in the 100m breaststroke.
