The second death was that of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa. Meyiwa was shot by intruders in his girlfriend’s home on Sunday 26 October. The 27-year-old keeper captained the South African National football team in the four Afcon qualifiers and also plays for local club Orlando Pirates. Orlando Pirates stated that it “has learned with sadness about the untimely death of our number one goalkeeper and current captain Senzo Meyiwa”.
