New Holland, one of South Africa’s latest rock sensations, are making their mark on the local music scene by simply being themselves and doing what they do best – making music. Their contagious lyrics, raucous beats, grinding guitars, pounding bass lines and raw vocals guarantee a good time when it comes to their live shows.

New Holland bounced onto the SA rock scene in December 2007 with the launch of their debut album, 01. Since then, their unsullied sound has triumphed around the country, earning them a wave of devoted fans. The group released their latest album, Exploded Views, at a strip club in Cape Town last month. For members Teejay (vocal and rhythm guitar), Gerdus (lead guitar), Buckle (bass) and Odendaal (drums), mediocrity isn’t an option.

Odendaal says that up to now, their audience has mainly been under the age of 30. “We’re trying to attract an older audience with regards to marketing ourselves for 2010.”

Exploded Views was recorded at Teejay’s recording studio, CoffeeStainedVinyl. “Probably one of the worst things about working with your buddies is that there isn’t someone that you’re trying to impress in the studio,” says Gerdus. “This is sometimes a bad thing, or sometimes a good thing. There is definitely value to having someone there with an opinion, someone who’s going to tell you that something’s k*k if it’s k*k, you know?”

The honest lyrics and appealing sound of the album showcase how serious the band are about their music. The album creates a unique identity which clearly sets them apart from others on the SA music scene.

With numerous highly acclaimed tours under their belt, including Avontoer II and III, Ubantoer II, performances at Ramfest and Oppikoppi, as well as various television performances on MK89, New Holland have now taken over the airwaves with their latest single “Something to Believe in”.

New Holland’s passion for their music is indisputable: “We don’t do it for the money; we do it for the music.”
