It’s that time of year again where black and orange are the most popular colours, creepy costumes are being dreamed up and pumpkins are being carved into all sorts of funny faces. Hatfield Square is transformed into an eerie place where wicked witches and ghastly goblins float around among fake spider webs, skeletons and monsters. The best-decorated pub or club in the Square will win a trophy once again – which is currently held by 2009 winner, DropZone. Most of the places in the Square will also offer drink specials and prizes for the best-dressed party-goer.
Since many students see Hallowe’en as a good opportunity to get all dressed up and drunk, the Square and other party places will probably be packed over the weekend with zombies and vampires. The only question then (apart from trick or treat?) should be where to go for the best party. Perdeby gives you the what, when and where of a few Hallowe’en parties happening in Gauteng next weekend.

What: Ghouls & Guys Halloween Party – a rock/metal show promising bonfires, dry ice punch, trick-or-treating, horror films and more … When: 29 October. Where: Muso’s International Club, Banbury Cross Shopping Centre, Northriding, Johannesburg. Damages: R50 entrance.
What: Halloween with Hotbox Studios featuring KIDOFDOOM, Saint Pauli from Germany and Eyes Like Mirrors. When: 30 October from 19:00. Where: Capitol Theatre, Church Square. Damages: R50 for those who are dressed up and R70 for those who are not.
What: Girls Gone Wild Hallowe’en – dress up party with live tattoo and body piercings. When: 30 October from 21:00. Where: Café Vacca Matta, Montecasino. Damages: R70 before 23:00 (ladies get in free before 22:00).
What: Hallowe’en party with SciCoustic, The Black Cat Bones and Vana. When: 30 October from 20:00. Where: Steak ’n Ale, Centurion. Damages: R100 entrance.
What: Hallowe’en Party 2010 with AvantGarde, Baked not Fried, Middle Inside and Red Light Effect. When: 30 October from 19:00. Where: Schivas Rock Pub & Pool, Pretoria. Damages: R40 entrance.
What: Hallowe’en at Legends – “Hottest dress-up party of the year”. When: 31 October. Where: Legends night club, Fehrsen str, Brooklyn.
What: Get Your Freak on The Steam Train – ghostly steam train booze cruise. When: 31 October for two and a half hours. Where: In and around Pretoria, with the after party at Bedrock Valley. Reservations: Book by 26 October by phoning 073 675 6584.
