Latest PB’s and goals: Simbine broke the South African 100 m record on 18 July this year and earned a gold medal in Budapest. Simbine did not only establish his 9.89 s record, but beat his sprinting hero Asafa Powell in the process. Werner Prinsloo, Simbine’s coach, spoke about the star’s Olympic hopes and said, “We are not thinking about winning any medal at the moment. All that matters is to ensure that [Simbine] qualifies for the final. Once he has done that, there will be time to set a new goal.”
Race days: Simbine will be sprinting in the 100 m heats on Saturday 13 August with the semi-finals and final scheduled to take place on Sunday 14 August.
