Aandklas’s owner and manager, Rudi Oosthuizen, expalined that the property was sold two years ago to counsel which made it subject to demolition. Aandklas did everything they could to negotiate, which led them to consider buying the property. “In the current state of affairs we are still renting and to avoid conflict with our landlord, we chose not to get directly involved.”
Oosthuizen said that nothing has been finalised yet because there has been no communication about the building being demolished. He added that “when it comes to heritage sites, the community has a big say in whether a building should be demolished or not” and that business at Aandklas will continue as normal to “serve the students and community at large.”
