In the 12 years that UPSO has been under Prof. Rycroft’s baton, it has reached new heights receiving national and international awards. Prof. Rycroft has performed around the world, having worked as a soloist, recording artist, principal orchestral player, chamber music artist, teacher and conductor. He founded the University of Stellenbosch String Ensemble in 1977 and the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra in 1981, and was appointed Principal Conductor and Music Director of the National Chamber Orchestra in 1995.
