On 21 July, the Department of Student Affairs hosted an engaging and vibrant “Welcome Back to Campus” semester two activation. This event was hosted to welcome students back to university life after the mid-year break. Held in the Hatfield campus Piazza, the activation had different structures and departments handing out a variety of things and interacting with students, creating a busy atmosphere.
Students had the chance to reconnect with the UP community, access valuable resources, and engage with support services. This activation set a positive tone for the months ahead with various members of UP staff in attendance, including Vice Principal Prof. Themba Mosia and Director of Student Affairs Dr Kgadi Mathabathe.
One of the event’s highlights was the introduction of the “Thrive25” initiative in connection with the upcoming SRC elections. It was officially announced that the nomination period for the upcoming elections has now opened, presenting students with the opportunity to step forward and take on leadership roles within the university. This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Unit for Student Governance and Leadership and the Department of Student Affairs.
Students who are interested in becoming part of the SRC have until 4 August to submit their nominations. All nominations must be submitted through the Student Leadership Dashboard that is accessible through the UP Portal by following these steps:
- Navigate to the UP Portal: Login to the UP Portal using your unique login credentials. Make sure that you are on the main page of the Student Portal.
- Access the Student Leadership Dashboard: Navigate to the Student Leadership Dashboard Portlet on the main page.
- Select the Student Leadership Nominations Tile: Click on the tile to begin the nomination process.
- Complete Your Nomination Form: Fully complete the nomination form, ensuring that all your information is correct. Select the portfolio(s) you would like to run for and then submit the form.
- Check Your Nomination Status: Review the nomination status of your application via the Student Leadership Dashboard’s Leadership Nomination page.
