South Africa is a rainbow nation in all aspects from race, faith, culture and gender. Pride is all about supporting people for being their true selves and showing your true colours while inspiring others. It is also a great time to show off your creativity and authenticity through your outfits and bold makeup looks.

The LBGTQ+ flag is a rainbow and is, therefore the centrepiece of this look. In 1978, an openly gay artist and drag queen, Gilbert Baker, designed the first rainbow flag. He wanted to create a symbol for the pride that stands out and says, “This is who I am!”. Baker attached a meaning to each colour of the rainbow: yellow for sunlight, orange for healing, red for life, violet for spirit, turquoise for art and green for nature. The rainbow colours are vibrant, fun to use and perfect of this celebration of a day. With the extravagant celebrations of Pride, you can go all out with colour as there are no creative boundaries.

This rainbow look can be achieved by using the NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette Brights eyeshadow (R 379.95), which contains all the rainbow colours you’ll need. By wearing a rainbow, you can celebrate your own identity or show support for the LGBTQ+ community as an ally. Gender knows no rules and neither does makeup. To add a pop of extra glitter and gold, use the Essence Cosmetics Loose Glitters in 06 “Golden nuggets” (R 59.95).

This rainbow look will definitely get your creative juices flowing, fill you with pride and make your true colours shine.
