The first ray of sun that kisses my skin
Like a blanket of warmth that fills my soul
The first drop of water that grazes my lips
Like an empty cup that begins to overflow
The quickening of my pulse, the strings of my heart
Like a harp, thrumming with a particular melody
My breathing stutters, shocked
Like it is the first time oxygen has been consumed by my lungs
My eyebrows knot in confusion, the crease between them like a valley of untold secrets
The side of my lip quirks up
Like a pendulum of every dream I’ve ever had swinging before me
A short breath shudders through me, leaving goosebumps in its wake
Like the middle of an early winter morning
The sun stitches itself through the trees
The morning dew stained against the glass mirrors my tear-stained cheeks
The memories of the past that fondly plagued me has disappeared
Even as I search the frozen depths of my mind, its echo does not resonate
Thoughts ring through my head like a cacophony of bells
Clinging to the victory of freedom which I once momentarily held in the palm of my hand
The calloused palm contrasting with the delicate fingers
Depicting the calm not before but after the storm
And as the sun rises over the horizon, realisation sets in
The storm is finally over
