TSHEPANG MOJI Stellenbosch University Stellenbosch University (SU), one of the country’s oldest universities, has announced plans and has recently launched a process to rename the RW Wilcocks Building, in a move that the university has described as one that would ‘allow for broad participation’ in the progress the historically-Afrikaans university seeks to make. The building, placed at the entrance of the Western Cape university, is named after RW Wilcocks, a eugenicist and a scientist who was the rector (designated in the present-day as a principal or vice-chancellor) of the university from 1935 to 1954, and supervised the doctoral thesis of Hendrik Verwoerd.
