I am passionate about the world of current affairs and the media. Being here allows me to explore my passion and learn more about this craft. As a journalist, I understand myself as a vessel through which stories are told.
I’m a person of many talents. When I am not practising martial arts, I go open water swimming and play the guitar and piano. I also really enjoy my sleep. But more than any of this, I love to write. My love for writing comes from my desire to give people a voice and represent overlooked ideals. Growing up in Zambia, I was exposed to a myriad of different people, and I’ve been inspired to bridge the gap between them through my writing.

I know, I’m also trying to figure it out.
I am my ancestors’ wildest dream. Conversationalist. Ambitious. That guy with a deep voice…
I am an introverted fellow from the west of the capital city who enjoys long, often deep conversations about anything. An absolute foodie, hence, the belly. I’m working on that six pack. I have these typical annoying journalistic tendencies to prod even when there’s no issue to prod. Lover of bird watching, reading biographies, and gossip.
They say time is precious, so I waste mine on the things I love, which includes reading and writing. I enjoy eating ice-cream, taking pictures of sunsets, and taking walks with friends. I am a firm believer that what is meant for you will find its way to you.
BA Language student whose only fluent in sarcasm. I enjoy poetry, art, and love animals dearly. An ambivert who loves meeting new people but tends to be alone. I love kind people and I love spreading kindness. Passionate about the details behind every story. I love watching horror films because the world is a scary place anyway.
I am best described as a hurricane with a little sunshine and a professional shower singer. I speak 16 languages. Sarcasm is my favourite. But best of all, I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams. Ibuzuba is my witness.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I find it important to represent minorities in and around social spaces. My passion for writing reflects this through providing underrepresented people a platform for both formal and informal topics. If there is any way to teach acceptance and safety, it’s through literature and writing.
There’s a 48 000-word novel draft in my Google Docs filled with fluff, plot holes, and bad metaphors. My love for writing comes from the books I’ve read and all the ways I knew they could be improved. I’m pursuing my BCom degree and am living my dream as part of the PDBY Features team, learning so much and loving it completely.
I am currently studying for a degree in Education for the FET Phase with a major focus on teaching English and Mathematics. I am extremely passionate about learning and sharing innovative ideas with people, so writing is a natural pursuit for me in this way.
A law student and an English major. I love reading, writing, and art. Most importantly, I really love a well-brewed cup of tea. In my free time, you’ll probably find me painting custom kicks, art gallery and coffee shop hopping, or dissing my loved ones.
If my life doesn’t closely resemble one of my favourite TV series, then is it even worth living? I also swear by MBTI tests. Enough said.
Rebecca van Besouw
I could talk forever about books, movies, and all things pop culture (come talk to me about fantasy novels, I have opinions). My dream job is to be a film critic so I can get paid to watch movies and then write about them.
I love binge watching and going out with friends. I also love staying up to date the celebrities and I absolutely love travelling!
I am currently a BA student studying Philosophy and Visual Culture Studies (what a combination I know). I love reading and writing, and I have a passion for pop culture and media analysis.
It is clear to me-and has been since the age of 11-that most people are mad. Few are the good, many are the fools, and none can hold their own against animals. I’m still figuring out if I’m good enough to be mad or if I’m a fool swimming upstream.
The world is an amalgamation of experiences, ideas, and people, and I am in the middle of all of it. What a blessing. I want to witness this life and its processions feel like a mirage of delicious theatre, and I’ll be sitting, watching, and eating my popcorn. I am happy to have a part in the things that shape me and my existence. I am joyful, grateful, and bubbling with hope. I am happy to report on that which makes us humans: entertainment.
I’m an aspiring writer, musician, and psychologist. Words are extremely powerful, and I hope to change the world with mine.
I am currently a 3rd year BSc Ecology student. I love all sports equally, except for rugby, which I love a bit more! I’m always keen to have a chat about anything sports related.
I am a third-year education student. I am a relaxed guy who partakes in a lot of activities during my time. I also like music. Cheers.
A growing bean. BCom student that hates maths. Striving to do some good in the world.

I am an English literature Masters student from the West of Johannesburg. An avid reader with a passion for the Arts and culture, I am also deeply fascinated by storytelling and the power of language.
I was created to do magical things!
I am a self-proclaimed rising diamond in the rough. I am inquisitive, passionate, and self-aware. In my leisure time, I fantasise about the notion of eventually finding the perfect balance between being a realist and an idealist—a befitting notion for my diplomatic endeavours.
I’m just your friendly neighbourhood copy editor. I’m currently a publishing student and a proud member of the PDBY family. A little about myself would be that I love reading, cats, and food.
20, BAdmin student, (book) junkie. ‘Illegitimi non carborundum’: Don’t let the [mean people] grind you down!
Nicholas Da Costa
I am currently a BA Law student that is obsessed with history. I believe that every challenge can be overcome. Onward and upward.

I’m a part-time videographer and content creator.

Hi! I am a photographer.
Known as “Skipps” in the office. I am currently doing a BA majoring in English and Cultural Heritage Studies, with a passion for all things “nerdy”. I take an excessive number of photos, so much so that my laptop reminds me daily of it.
I’m a BSc Human Physiology, Genetics, and Psychology student with a love for art. I quote a lot from Harry Potter and Mean Girls. If I’m not in front of the camera, I’m usually behind a good book or watching a good movie.
I’m a BIS Publishing student with a passion for making literature and news accessible and appealing to all. I’m looking forward to putting my creative ideas to use to make the newspaper’s layout even more eye-catching than it already is.
I enjoy a great cup of coffee and a decently sized stack of books. Free, informative journalism for the win!
I earnestly love socialising but also ensuring that I have meaningful conversations that aim to teach and or empower myself or the other party. I am a big foodie. Moreover, I love being up to date with what’s happening around me. #ISoarAtUP.
