The University of Pretoria’s water polo men’s team, also known as TuksWaterpolo, is gearing up for the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Championships that will take place later this year. The team has been training hard in the pool, with five-day training sessions and rigorous drills, to get the players match-fit and ready to face tough opponents such as Stellenbosch University and Wits University.

World cup reviews

Two world cups that South Africa has been participating in are coming to an end, and the Springboks have announced their team for their campaign. Thus, it is time to look at how the country fared in the Netball and the FIFA Women’s World Cup as well as what the Rugby World Cup has in store for the defending champions.

What Our Women Need

Banyana Banyana’s head coach, Desiree Ellis, spoke candidly in an interview on Radio 702 with Bongani Bingwa on the women’s performance at the world cup. Coach Ellis mentioned how their performance against the top teams in the world should be enough to push forward the implementation of a professional women’s football league. This comment raises some important questions around the prioritisation of the development of women’s football in South Africa.
